art

for advocacy

Using art for advocacy means using your art to support a cause you’re passionate about.

My own advocacy experience started with art, and it has remained a throughline throughout my entire experience thus far. As someone who has now spent years using art to do this work, I have experienced and seen firsthand how using art to engage with environmental issues significantly increases our depth of understanding and empathy that we feel towards these issues. No matter the age or experience level of our audience, art allows us to meet people where they are at in order to communicate our message. The art, and the cause, can vary widely depending on what you are interested in. Even within the field of art for ocean advocacy, there’s a wide range of types of art and advocacy!

One of the best ways to get involved with art of ocean advocacy is with Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Programs, who provide a space for young people to connect, create, and communicate for our ocean. Among their various programs, they run an annual art contest, allowing youth to create their own pieces of art for advocacy and share them globally.
